Key West

Key West gives a cruising visit an unusually direct connection to life ashore. At the Historic Seaport, the harborwalk begins beside the boats, bringing the working waterfront, restaurants and Old Town into the same visit. For sailors and powerboaters, time here can be as much about stepping off the vessel as heading back out on the water.

The seaport's character comes from a maritime past that still shapes its present. Fishing, trade and waterfront businesses have supported Key West for generations. Walking the waterfront gives that history a setting: a harbor that remains useful to boats while making room for the people who come to see it.

Where you keep the boat changes how you experience the destination. Downtown dockage favors an Old Town stay; city moorings offer a different arrangement. Stock Island is a separate waterfront base, with marina facilities and a shuttle connection to downtown. These choices let the visit take shape around your vessel and the time you want ashore.

Key West also provides a place to prepare for excursions beyond the city. Reef visits and an offshore trip to Dry Tortugas call for different levels of preparation, and neither should be treated as an extension of a marina reservation. Choose the shore base first, then build the boating days around the conditions and requirements of each destination.
