Christmas Cove

Christmas Cove is approached from the south and east through well-defined waters surrounding Great Saint James. The anchorage is generally straightforward to enter in settled conditions, although visiting boaters should remain alert for reefs, shoal areas, and anchored vessels while approaching. Most yachts anchor in sand with good holding, and the protected waters provide a comfortable stop in typical trade wind conditions.

Christmas Cove is a dedicated anchorage rather than a marina destination. The protected bay accommodates numerous visiting sailboats and catamarans, with good holding in sand and plenty of room for daytime visitors and overnight stays. While there are no marina facilities within the cove itself, full-service marinas are available nearby at Red Hook and Benner Bay, only a short cruise away.

Christmas Cove itself has no fuel dock, marina, or repair facilities, preserving its quiet natural character. Complete marine services—including fuel, water, provisions, chandlery supplies, repairs, and transient slips—are conveniently available nearby at Red Hook Harbor and Benner Bay, allowing cruisers to enjoy the anchorage without sacrificing access to essential services.

Although the anchorage is primarily a recreational destination, grocery stores, restaurants, pharmacies, marine suppliers, and other daily necessities are only minutes away in Red Hook. Many visiting cruisers combine a relaxing stop at Christmas Cove with provisioning, fuel stops, or marina services before continuing their voyage through the U.S. and British Virgin Islands.

Few anchorages in the Virgin Islands combine outstanding snorkeling, calm protected waters, and such a relaxed Caribbean atmosphere. Boaters return year after year to swim over vibrant coral reefs, enjoy lunch from the famous floating Pizza Pi, paddle the tranquil shoreline, and spend peaceful evenings at anchor beneath spectacular Caribbean sunsets.
